Project Mixtape
Volume 1

A writing project where I draw inspiration from music. And also employ a fanfic trope or two. Each story stands alone.

And yet that isn’t the case. Because your soulmate doesn’t always say the same thing or you aren’t reincarnated at the same time. But every now and then soulmates are reincarnated together, again and again. Even if it doesn’t always work out.Parts: 2/3
Words: 20,603Posted without Part 2, the story still flows nicely and I have no idea when/if I'll ever write Part 2
TRACK 1: last true mouthpiece - This was supposed to be a short story not a novella but here we are. Ironically, this is not, in fact, the first story I started writing for PM, it just happened to be the first I finished. Which also explains why it is so long - I normally write novels. Song Recommendation: Me
TRACK 2: show me the night - This story was a gift to my long time writing buddy. My initial goal for PM was to write short stories with new original characters. But the plot I came up with listening to Mexico by The Staves worked really well with some of Emily's and my existing characters. Plus she has written me so many stories as gifts that I had to return the favor. Kate and Matt belong to Emily M. Song Recommendation: Jane Alice Dedicated to Emily
TRACK 3: i’m red as a beet - This was more than a year in the making and was supposed to be a cute, sweet, funny, SHORT fake-dating only-one-bed debacle. Somewhere along the way it got away from me. Oops. Now it’s a novella length fake-dating only-one-bed debacle. Song Recommendation: Jane Alice
TRACK 4: i feel so scattered - Wrote this in two days because it demanded to be told. ¯\(ツ)/¯ I did draw heavily on my personal experience working the counter of a eat-in bakery, though the one in this story is significantly cooler than my previous workplace. Song Recommendation: Me
TRACK 5: Folklore - When I first asked a couple of my friends for song recommendations, I also asked what their favorite tropes were. And I tried really hard to incorporate those tropes into the stories I was writing based off their songs. Jackie gifted me with my favorite trope, enemies to lovers, but she also recommended an entire album. So I asked her to pick her top 3 songs from it. Hence why this story has three parts. Song Recommendations: Jackie
Bonus Track: tail lights in the distance - This is the first song I listened to and was inspired to tell “its” story. This was way back in high school (cough, 2009, cough) so it’s a bit rough and not very fleshed out. I thought about rewriting it for PM. But I think it’s better in its, rather limp, original form - a good reminder of my growth as a writer over the years. Song Recommendation: Me Dedicated to 16 year-old Hanna, you’ve grown so much.
